UMass Mens Assistant Coach Tony Basset

Tony Bassett, a 2009 UMass graduate, was a four-year varsity player for Sam Koch. As a high school player in California, Tony was a three-time Bay Counties All-League selection, was selected as the Bay Counties League MVP as a senior, and was a Far West All-American. He was a four-time Cal North ODP State Team player and was named captain of the squad in 2005. In 2002 and 2004, he was named to the Region IV ODP team. In addition, Tony played premier club soccer and his club teams won both the Surf Cup and the Nomads Tournaments. As a player at UMass, he played 4 years for Sam Koch, 2005-2008. In his junior year, he was part of UMass' cinderella run to the NCAA College Cup in Cary, North Carolina. In 2008, his senior year, he helped the UMass Men's Soccer program receive their first ever at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

In August of 2009, he served as an assistant coach to Trevor Singer (Graduate Assistant Coach at Temple University) for the U17 Maine Boys ODP State Team. That Maine ODP team finished first in their group at Regionals in New Jersey and advanced to the semi-finals in Delaware for the first time in Maine Boys ODP State Team history. In June of 2009, he received his National Diploma from the NCSAA. In June of 2010, he received his C-License from USSF. He has served as an assistant coach for Sam Koch and the University of Massachusetts Minutemen for 2 years. Tony's coaching responsibilities include recruiting, training and other duties.
