July 29 Free Goalkeeper Clinic for Western U10s to U14s. Walker Boyd, the UMASS Men's GK coach, will conduct two preseason 1 hour sessions for our u10 to u14 players at UMASS this Monday August 2 and the next Monday August 9 from 5-6pm. Keepers should bring shin guards, gloves, a ball and water. Please email your coach if you are going to attend. Coach Boyd will be conducting clinics throughout the fall for the Western United u10-u14 goalkeepers at UMASS. For Coach Walker's bio click here.

July 26 Free clinic for Western U10s and older - Monday August 2nd. Western United is pleased to present a free technique clinic for Western United players U10 and older with UMASS Men's assistant coach Roy Fink. The clinic will stress comfort with the ball, moves to beat an opponent and 1st touch. This introductory clinic will take place at UMASS on Monday August 2 for boys and girls. U10 through U12 from 5-6pm; U13 and older from 6-7pm. Players should bring their own soccer ball, shin guards and water. For Coach Fink's bio click here. July 18 Congratulations to the Western United U17 girls team for winning the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup title in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The team defeated the SVSC Eclipse from California 3-0 in the finals, netting goals in the 43rd, 86th, and 90th minutes to secure the victory.

July 12 Reminder: Players who have accepted roster spots should complete their registration acceptances and first payments by July 15th.

July 12 After a comprehensive six-month search, Western United F.C. is pleased to announce that Chris Payne has agreed to become the club's first full-time Director of Coaching (DOC).

Coach Payne comes to the club directly from his position as DOC for the West Texas Division of the Dallas Texans, one of the top youth soccer clubs in the nation. Prior to his stint with the Dallas Texans, Coach Payne had served as Technical Director for West Texas United Soccer Club and had been a head men's soccer coach at the University of New Haven and an assistant men's soccer coach at his alma mater, Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU). While at SCSU, Coach Payne played on two national championship squads. In his native England, Coach Payne played on West Ham United's U18 team. Coach Payne has a USSF "B" license and an NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma. More than 100 candidates applied for the Western United DOC position, approximately half of whom were from countries outside the United States.

Updated July 8 Western United FC is pleased to announce an affiliation with the UMASS men's soccer program. This affiliation will allow all Western United players access to clinics and training by the UMASS men's soccer staff. The following UMASS Men's Soccer Coaches will be working with our players throughout the 2010 and 2011 season: Roy Fink, Walker Boyd and Tony Bassett.

Coach Fink will be our technique clinician while Coach Boyd will work with Goalkeepers. Coach Bassett will be coaching a u10 developmental team in the boys Developmental Program along with Derek Shea. These sessions will be carried out at UMASS facilities.

Teams may post additional tryout dates below, and you may contact any coaches by referencing our contact page to enquire about trying out for their team.  You may also contact the registrar for questions about tryouts and accepting positions which have been offered to you for a Western United FC team.

A tryout for the U12 Girls White team coached by Meg Murphy, a two-time All-American and four-time All-New England player at Amherst College, and Tim Murphy, whose Western United teams have won four State Cup titles, will be held at the Holyoke Elks Field July 7th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

The U14 Boys have an open roster spot, please contact coach Chris White about tryouts or attending a practice session.

July 3 A combined boys U14,U15 and U17 team played a series of friendlies against older teams from Vermont, New Hampshire, and Einbeck, Germany. The hilight of the day was a 1-1 tie against the German squad. See the News page for details

June 25 Western United alumnus Sam DeMello has been named to the PDL Team of the Week for scoring the game winning goal for the Albany Highlanders against the New Hampshire Phantoms last week. The St Lawrence University player is competing in his first PDL season for the Highlanders who currently sit in 1st place in the Northeast Division of the PDL.

June 22 Western United F.C. is pleased to announce that Jen Hughes, head coach of the Amherst College women's soccer program, will be joining our coaching staff as head coach of the U15 Girls. Hughes is entering her seventh year as head coach at Amherst College where her career record is 64-20-17. Amherst has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in three of the past four years, advancing to the national quarterfinals in 2006 and 2008. View the News Page for a full bio of Jen Hughes.

June 21 Western United F.C. is pleased to announce that Chris White, an assistant coach in the women's soccer program at Amherst College, will coach the rising U14 boys team for the 2010-2011 season.  A 1996 graduate of Colgate University, where he was a Division I First Team Regional All-American goalkeeper, Coach White earned Master of Science degrees from the University of Manchester (UK) and the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Coach White has extensive experience in coaching both boys and girls in club, ODP, and high school settings.

May 24 Alumni News. The following Western United alumni are currently playing in the USL Premier Development League (PDL) this summer. Evan Coleman (Brown), Greg Balicki (URI) and Marco Gomes (WNEC) all play for the Western Mass Pioneers, and Sam DeMello (St. Lawrence University) is playing for the Albany Highlanders. Congratulations boys.
